A friend in Hawaii, another in Mexico, someone in Iceland, and one more in the Middle East. That’s the friends list a full Vivillon collection normally takes. Each of its 18 wing patterns is tied to a real-world region, and Postcards from those places are the only way to unlock them.
That’s what makes Vivillon in Pokémon GO so fun to chase and so slow to complete. This guide covers how Scatterbug is unlocked, where every pattern comes from, and the fastest way to fill the gaps in your collection.
Part 1. What Is Vivillon Pokémon GO?
Vivillon is a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon from the Kalos region, best known for its 18 different wing patterns. Each pattern matches a real-world area, so the Vivillon you get depends on where your Postcards come from, not where you live.
You can’t catch Vivillon directly. It’s the final stage of a three-step evolution line, and every stage uses Scatterbug Candy:
- Scatterbug: The first stage. Each one is tied to a single region’s pattern from the start.
- Spewpa: Evolve Scatterbug with 25 Scatterbug Candy.
- Vivillon: Evolve Spewpa with 100 Scatterbug Candy.
That works out to 125 Candy per pattern, or 2,250 Candy for all 18. Scatterbug is a 1 km buddy, so walking it returns Candy faster than most species do, and a Pinap Berry on each encounter doubles what the catch pays out.
Where Scatterbug Comes From
Scatterbug doesn’t spawn in the wild like most Pokémon. It only appears after you pin enough Postcards from a specific region, and the Vivillon Collector medal tracks that progress for you. The medal ranks up as those regions are completed: Bronze at one pattern, Silver at five, Gold at ten, and Platinum once all 18 are done.
Shiny Vivillon in Pokémon GO
Shiny Scatterbug, Spewpa, and Vivillon debuted during the Scattered to the Winds event, which ran from February 18 to February 20, 2025. All 18 patterns have a shiny form, which means dedicated collectors can chase 36 different Vivillon in total. Your shot at one comes through the same Postcard-based Scatterbug encounters. Two patterns that exist in the main series, Fancy and Poké Ball, have not been released in Pokémon GO, so 18 is still the size of a complete set.
Part 2. Vivillon Patterns Explained: How Postcard Collection Works
Every Gift in Pokémon GO carries a Postcard from the PokéStop where it was picked up. Pin that Postcard to your Postcard Book, and it counts toward the sub-medal for its region. Fill a sub-medal far enough, and you can claim a Scatterbug that evolves into that region’s Vivillon pattern.
How Many Postcards Unlock a Scatterbug
Each region tracks its progress separately, and the target grows with every encounter:
- First encounter: 3 pinned Postcards from the same region.
- Second encounter: 9 Postcards.
- Every encounter after that: 15 Postcards each.
To claim your Scatterbug, open the Vivillon Collector medal and tap that region’s sub-medal. If you save the encounter for later, new Postcards from that region won’t count until you catch it. Scatterbug can run away from the encounter, so leading with a Pinap Berry keeps those three or nine pinned Postcards from going to waste. Each Postcard also counts only once, so unpinning and pinning it again won’t add progress.
Where Postcards Come From
Postcards reach your book in three main ways:
- Your own Gifts: Spinning PokéStops sometimes gives you Gifts, and you can pin their Postcards when you send them. Up to three of your own pinned Postcards count toward the medal each day, which happens to be exactly what the first encounter in a region costs, so a single day in the right place can unlock it on its own.
- Gifts from friends: Each friend can send you one Gift a day, and its Postcard comes from wherever they played. These Postcards aren’t capped like your own, so friends abroad are your best source.
- Mateo’s Gift Exchange: Mateo shows up once a day at the end of a Route. Send him a Gift, and you’ll get a random Gift and Postcard back from a Trainer somewhere else in the world.
Part 3. Pokémon GO Vivillon Map by Country: All 18 Patterns & Regions
Region borders are approximate, and some countries have more than one pattern. The map follows the game’s own cell boundaries rather than national ones, so two towns in the same country can fall under different patterns. The Vivillon map on your Vivillon Collector medal shows the exact areas, and it is the tie-breaker whenever a list disagrees with the game.
Ocean, Sandstorm, Sun, and Tundra Vivillon in Pokémon GO are the toughest to complete. Their regions are either remote islands or places with fewer active players, so their Postcards rarely turn up in random Gifts. Icy Snow deserves a place on that list too: Greenland, northern Canada, and the far north of Scandinavia cover plenty of ground but very few trainers, which makes its Postcards just as scarce.
How to Find Friends for Each Pattern
The free route is a well-built Pokémon GO Vivillon friends list. Start with r/VivillonCollectors, where trainers post their region and friend code, and with community directories that sort players by pattern. Add trainers from the regions you still need, then rename each one after their pattern. The game lets you nickname 20 friends a day, which keeps a 450-friend list searchable. Send and open Gifts daily: every pinned Postcard moves that region’s sub-medal, and each Postcard counts only once. For Ocean, Sandstorm, Sun, and Tundra, keep two or three contacts per region, because one inactive player can stall a pattern for weeks.
Part 4. How to Complete Every Vivillon Pattern Faster
The trickiest part of the Vivillon Collector medal is what comes after the first encounter. Three pinned Postcards earn your first Scatterbug in any region, but the second needs nine, and every encounter after that needs 15. With only three of your own counting each day, and the regions you still need sitting thousands of miles away, filling them means keeping regular partners on every inhabited continent plus a few remote islands. That is slow and unreliable.
iToolab AnyGo removes that dependency. It is one of the most trusted spoofers among Pokémon GO players. Put yourself in the region you are missing, spin its PokéStops, and the Gifts you send out carry that region’s Postcards, so the ones you pin come from exactly the place your collection needs. The Gifts still get sent the same way and the encounters still play out on your screen; what changes is which PokéStops they came from.
- Teleport to global spots with one click to collect rare Vivillon postcards.
- Simulate natural walking routes to gather regional gifts efficiently.
- Newly released Native Mode: spoof iOS location without modded apps for all LBS apps safely.

How to Use iToolab AnyGo to Collect Vivillon Postcards
The steps below use the Windows version as an example. You can also use AnyGo App directly on Android or iOS devices.
Step 1 Download and install iToolab AnyGo on your Windows or Mac computer. Launch AnyGo and select General Mode.
Step 2 Connect your iPhone or Android phone to your computer with a USB cable.
Step 3 Enter the region your missing pattern belongs to, such as Honolulu for Ocean or Reykjavik for Tundra, and click Go to teleport there. Your location will update instantly.
Step 4 Open Pokémon GO and spin PokéStops to collect Gifts, then pin up to three of their Postcards as you send them. Three pins earn your first Scatterbug for that region; come back for the nine and fifteen that follow.
Summary
Vivillon is one of the most rewarding collections in the game, but it’s built around distance. Each of the 18 patterns depends on Postcards from its own region, three for the first encounter and more for the ones after. Friends’ Gifts, your own Gifts, and Mateo’s Gift Exchange all help. Still, rare patterns like Ocean, Sandstorm, Sun, and Tundra can take a long time to unlock.
AnyGo Spoofer for Pokémon GO is the easiest way to speed up Vivillon in Pokémon GO. Teleport to the region you are missing, spin its Pokestops yourself, and pin the Postcards from where you actually are. Download iToolab AnyGo and make one trip to the region you still need, which at three pinned Postcards is usually enough to claim your first Scatterbug there the same day.
